Macintosh System 8 Setup
This document explains how to connect an Apple Macintosh
computer running System 8 (or greater) to dial into DACOR so that you can
access the Internet using applications of your choice.
Before you begin, you should have:

A Macintosh running System 8. Check
"About this Computer" under the Apple menu if you are not sure if you are
running System 8.

A modem with phone line plugged in.

A DACOR username and password.
-
A web browser, e-mail program and/or other applications
you wish to use to access the Internet.
How to set up your Internet connection
Follow these steps to set up inital settings to dial
into DACOR. You should only have to do this once.

Find "Internet Setup Assistant" and run it by double
clicking.

Press the "Update" button.

Now you begin the actual set up process. Each
screen in this process has a number and arrows in the lower-right corner.
The steps are numbered here the same as they appear on the screen.
At each step, fill in the information required for that step (if any) and
press the right arrow to go to the next screen.

Introduction: Read the introduction
before clicking the right arrow.

Internet Configuration: Select "Add
Internet Configuration".

Configuration name and connection type: Type in
DACOR or some other meaningful name for this configuration. Make sure
"Modem" is selected.

Modem Settings: Choose your modem from the scrolling
list. Your modem will likely be connected to the "Modem Port".

Configuration information: Type in 419-352-4000
for the phone number. Type in your DACOR username for "Login name". Type
in your DACOR password for "Password".

IP Address: Select "No" for an IP address.

Domain Name Servers: Type in 63.174.195.14,
a return, and 63.174.195.2 for the "DNS address". Leave
"Domain Name" blank.

E-mail address and password: Enter your
DACOR (or BGSU) e-mail address and associated password.

E-mail account and host computer:
The value of "POP account" depends on whether you have a BGSU remote access
account or full DACOR dialup account. If you have a BGSU remote access
account enter your BGSU username followed by @mailstore.bgsu.edu,
otherwise, enter your DACOR username followed by @mail.dacor.net.
Regardless of what type of account you have, type mail.dacor.net for the
"SMTP host".

Newsgroup Host Computer: You can leave
it blank.

Conclusion: Press the "Go Ahead" button.
This will save the changes and try to make your first connection to DACOR.
If it works, you are online and can start using your Internet Applications.
How to Connect to the Internet using
the Internet Dialer
Follow these steps to connect to the Internet using
the Internet Dialer.

To connect to the Internet, first, find the "Internet
Dialer" and run it by double clicking.

Make sure "DACOR" is selected in the pop-up menu.

Press the "Connect" button.

When the phone is highlighted and the Connect button
changes to Disconnect, then you are finished and can start your Internet
application(s).

Congratulations. You have successfully connected
to the Internet.

When you are done accessing the Internet, press the
Disconnect button. When the phone is no longer "hot", the phone has
been hung up and you no longer are hooked up to the Internet.
